Bond Beyond Business

I’m premed (hopefully not “pre” for much longer though) and when I first entered BOND this was something that terrified me. However I quickly came to realize that while BOND is a Ross club, its members are incredibly diverse in terms of majors and interests and each project caters to every individual's strengths.

I knew healthcare was my focus and every semester that I served as a consultant, I was staffed on a healthcare project. Through this, I was able to learn about the business side of medicine and utilized information I learned in my science classes to inform decision making about business ideals. Another thing that really struck me was that while those semesters were very busy due to an intensive course load and the BOND projects, they were also some of my favorite semesters because of the people I met. All the late nights spent in Ross were peppered with photo ops, however unwanted by the rest of my team members, gossip sessions and dance breaks and at the end of each project not only had we changed the trajectory of multiple companies but also created life long friendships with our team members.

As I rose through BOND, going from a consultant to a PM to the Vice President of Recruiting, I had the opportunity to implement ideas into practice. I pushed forward initiatives I cared about like the first mental health event BOND has had and created a seminar where BOND members explored gender inequalities in the business world. I had the chance to reach out to alumni and bounce ideas off of them, mentor the younger members in the organization, and more than anything learn how to become a better leader in the club. As a premed student coming to college I never expected to learn so much from a consulting club but the skills I learned, both technical and soft, put me in the best position to currently apply to medical school. BOND taught me what my premed classes didn’t and allowed me to constantly work with people who were different than I was, something I aim to carry with me throughout my medical journey.

I know BOND seems intimidating if you’re not a business student, and I know that because that's how I felt. But it's truly a family and something I attribute the best part of my college experience to.
